Senior Survey

Thanks to all Bolton Seniors who completed the Senior Survey this summer.  Over 43% of you let us know your thoughts and needs for services, activities and an appropriate facility.  The results showed an interest in trips of all kinds, educational and travel programs, exercise and fitness, book clubs, computer classes, movies, art, photography and gardening.  The services most wanted are legal, referrals, health and tax information.  A Senior Center with expanded hours was preferred.  Over the next few months, we hope to offer a number of new activities and services identified in the survey.

Senior Picnic

The weather was beautiful, the food delicious, and the music and games were fabulous.  This year’s picnic was a big success.  Thank you to all who came, brought food and helped out.

Tuesday Connection

For the second year we are partnering with other Bolton groups and organizations to offer monthly programs from 11:00 a.m. to noon  at the Senior Center followed by lunch. We came up with the name “Tuesday Connection” in  hope that the events will be a real connection between the seniors and various communities in Bolton.  The following is a list of  this year’s events:

September 15:  A Bolton Local Community Garden Update followed by a ZUMBA Exercise Dancing Demo.

October 20:  Meet Luke, a therapy dog and his owner Barbara Donahue of DogBones and find out what they do.

November 17:  A Cooking Demonstration by Lyn Slade of Charlotte’s House.

December15:  Festive holiday music.

January 19:  “Feather Your Nest” with Diane Carter.

Yoga Classes

Join us every Wednesday at 10:15 at the Senior Center for Yoga For Health with Marg Takarabe.  Marg is a certified Yoga instructor who specializes in Senior Yoga.  Sessions last 45 minutes and cost $3.00 for seniors and $5.00 for nonseniors.

Bolton Afghan for Sale

We are selling custom designed afghans to raise money for senior programs.  Decorated with an apple tree in the center with Bolton’s name and date of incorporation and surrounded by famous buildings, the afghans come in forest green, cranberry or black against an off-white background.  They are machine washable, 100 percent cotton and sell for $40.   For further information or to place an order call Jo Edmunds at 779-6406 or Mary Pitman at 779-6151.

 Fuel Oil Assistance Program

During the 2007/2008 winter season, the Friends of Bolton Seniors began to provide fuel assistance for seniors in need. With generous contributions from the community, we have already helped many Bolton seniors. Most seniors are on a fixed income and it doesn’t look as if the cost of fuel oil, other utilities and basic needs will be going down soon! We are ready for the 2009/2010 winter season with funds and expertise to ensure that basic home heating needs for seniors can be met.

Walking Program

We are planning a walking club as part of the Keep Moving Program which is supported by the MA Department of  Public Health.  Open to Bolton residents age 50 and up, the walks will be designed to fit the needs, ages and fitness levels of all participants.  To participate or train as a walk leader, contact Barbara Parente at 978-779-6303 or e-mail her at bparente@comcast.net.
